20 October, 2014
Giorgi Kvirikashvil made the above-mentioned statement after the presentation of the "Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises in Georgia" - a new component of the governmental program "Produce in Georgia".
According to Kvirikashvil, this project is aimed at giving special funding to people living in regions and at developing micro and small enterprises. The Minister said the project consists of two phases. Namely, teaching and training of the region’s population as well as of small entrepreneurs will last for four weeks and then specially selected companies will distribute and monitor the funding.
"We have to fight with the challenges that we have today and the current challenge is a very large imbalance between populations living in cities and regions in terms of living conditions. This program is necessary for resolving this challenge. Later, cultivation of new technologies in agriculture will become more efficient and larger-sized enterprises will be created", he said.
The Vice Premier said that tourism development will bring more jobs, but it will not happen suddenly. Therefore, it is necessary to engage village population in small enterprises in order to defeat today's challenges and the government has already been doing this. As for the program "Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises in Georgia," the total budget of the program is 20 million GEL. The program will be implemented in 26 months. It will be activated on November 1. Co-participatory funding of micro and small business will be a maximum of 5,000 GEL for start-up entrepreneurs and 15,000 GEL for a group of entrepreneurs.
The presentation was attended by the Prime Minister, who also talked about the program.
