According to the Georgian Bureau of the Voice of America, Derek Chollet emphasized the fact that the threat coming from Russia raised once again the issue of collective self-defense on the continent.
“The door is widely open and the Wales summit once again proved it. Partnership plans with the two countries, which were most interested in taking steps for integration with the alliance, have been furthered expanded. These countries are Georgia and Montenegro. Both have action plans, according to which the alliance will work on moving these countries closer to the next stage”, the Assistant Secretary of Defense said.
According to him, Georgia remained satisfied with the partnership plan. Derek Chollet talked about a worthy partnership of Georgia with special respect.
“I cannot properly express how great partners Georgians are - be it Afghanistan or assistance in Near East. Georgia is powerful and impressive partner, and to tell the truth it sacrificed more than many other allies”, he said.
