Man murders wife then forces his children to watch mother burn inside home
The village of Dvabzu of the Ozurgeti municipality has witnessed a horrific tragedy. According to details of the investigation, 40-year-old Temur Ramishvili allegedly murdered his 29-year-old wife, Natalia, out of jealousy by striking her in the head with an axe. Ramishvili then placed her on the bed, poured petrol on her and set the house on fire. According to the witnesses, he stood in the yard watching the house burn. Charges have already been brought against Temur Ramishvili. Ramishvili has allegedly admitted his guilt in the crime claiming that jealousy was his motive.

“What could they find? The poor girl was completely burnt. The police could only find the skull and pieces of bone. Investigators have collected evidence, including her remains, for expert analysis in an official examination. According to one of the witnesses, Natalia’s parents have taken the children” – said their neighbour.
According to Vasil Ghlonti, a Dvabzu village representative, “Temur and Natalia got married eight years ago. They had a girl and a boy. The girl is seven years old and the boy is four. At one point, Temur and Natalia seemed to be a loving couple but as it turned out, there was obviously conflict within the family. On that horrific day of the incident, neighbors heard the girl cry and they rushed to the house – but it was already on fire. The young child said that her mom was sleeping and father killed her with an axe. They say Temur was jealous of his wife. I think he has some mental problems… They were unemployed and could hardly make ends meet. Temur was a sailor. He used to boast that he’d traveled around the world. We were trying to give the family the status of socially vulnerable.
According to Ketevan Khidasheli, Head of the NGO “Women for the Regional Development,” this is not the first case of violence in the village of Dvabzu. She explains:
“In almost every such family the social conditions are very difficult. Social assistance for the Ramishvili family was stopped more than once: Once it was because a neighbor gave him a mobile phone that cost 150 GEL; the second time someone gave Temur a junk car… It seems that the he had psychological problems. Natalia lived in the village for many years but she never visited a neighbor. Her husband was jealous and didn’t allow her to leave the house.
Unfortunately the
children witnessed this horrific tragedy. They shouted that their mother was being killed, but the culprit stood calmly in front of the house and kept saying that she deserved it. Temur made his own children watch the house burn with their mother inside. The boy said that his mother was lying on the bed with an axe in her head. This is what the four-year-old child witnessed.
Most likely the husband crept up [behind] Natalia and killed her. I think he could not easily overpower her because she was physically strong, but Temur was a frail man. The neighbors say that they heard no shouts. In previous incidents when there was fight [between them] we went there and took out the children or the wife. I think he crept up [behind] her and struck her with the axe…”
Of course, that Temur Ramishvili will be punished for the crime he committed, but this isn’t a solution. It is a fact that family violence is a serious problem in Georgia. The state should take measures to regulate it.”
